Accept Crypto Payments For IOTA With This Simple WordPress Plugin

IOTA is an open and distributed ledger that comes with a token named after the protocol. Unlike Bitcoin or Ethereum, it doesn’t use the blockchain technology, which allows for ultra-fast and fee-less transactions. It is often viewed as the cryptocurrency for the Internet of Things (IoT).

Not having to pay fees makes this payment technology very interesting for website owners who want to accept small payments and donations. With PayPal, on a payment made to you, you pay 1,5% of the donation amount + 0,35 EUR per transaction. It you receive a lot of payments this way, it quickly adds up to make a sum that could have been spent better.

The Plugin

Alexander K., a German developer and IOTA enthusiast, took upon himself to work on the integration of IOTA payments into WordPress, with a little help from the IOTA Button script. His WordPress plugin allows you to very easily integrate a payment or donation payment anywhere on your WordPress site.

The installation is very straightforward, like any other WordPress plugin, and once you filled in the necessary payment information (wallet address, amount, currency, and user), you’re good to go. The plugin also has some handy shortcodes ready to use for even easier integration. From what we understood of it, integration with WooCommerce is not ready yet, but planned for a future upgrade, so you should stay tuned.

On top of the plugin, you will also need to get a Firefly wallet, which allows you to create your payment address and receive the payments. As we like to test the plugins we mention on this blog, you can try it for yourself and make a donation using the button below (you will need a Firefly wallet for this).
